Child Safety Standards
Last updated:
Many people who use Smart Campus are children. Keeping them safe is our first priority. These standards set out our zero-tolerance position on child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), how the app is designed to protect children, and how to report a concern.
These standards apply to the Smart Campus app (Android package com.smartcampuspakistan.app, listed on Google Play as Smart Campus Pakistan), developed and published on Google Play by Burhan Technologies, and operated by BURHAN TECHNOLOGIES. They are part of our Terms & Conditions and apply to every user, including teachers, staff and administrators.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police first.
In Pakistan, dial 15.
1. What is not allowed (child sexual abuse and exploitation)
We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). On Smart Campus, nobody may:
- Share, request or link to child sexual abuse material (CSAM): any image, video, drawing or text that shows or describes the sexual abuse of a child
- Groom a child: build trust with a child in order to abuse or exploit them, or try to move a conversation with a child somewhere private for that purpose
- Sexualise a child: sexual comments, messages or images about or sent to a child
- Sextort a child: threaten or pressure a child to send images, money or anything else
- Traffic, sell or advertise children for sexual purposes
- Share sexual or nude images of anyone, or any content that puts a child in danger
2. How the app is designed to protect children
- Only for real school communities. Every account belongs to an institution and must be approved by it before it can be used. Teachers, guardians and administrators upload ID documents for checking when they register; students do not.
- No private messages with strangers. Communication happens in school groups that the institution creates and its administrators can see and manage. There is no way to search for and message unknown users.
- Parents often run younger students' accounts. For younger students, a parent or guardian usually creates and operates the student account on their behalf.
- Students cannot post in groups. Students can read and react to messages in the groups their school adds them to.
- Parents can see. Parents and guardians linked to a student can read their child's groups.
- Report and block in every group. Anyone can report a message or block another user from inside the chat.
- No public profiles, no location sharing and no advertising aimed at children.
3. How to report a concern
In the app
- Press and hold the message.
- Tap Report message.
- Choose a reason (such as Sexual or inappropriate content or Bullying or harassment) and add a note if you can.
Your institution's administrators are told straight away, and can delete the message and suspend the account. You can also block the person, so you no longer see their messages or get notifications from them.
By email
For anything involving a child's safety, also email us directly at smartcampuspakistan@gmail.com. Please include, if you can: the institution's name or ID, the group name, the name or ID of the person involved, and the date and time.
Do not send us copies of abusive images. Describe what you saw instead, and we will find it.
To the authorities
If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police first (in Pakistan, dial 15). You can also report online child sexual abuse to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing in Pakistan and to the NCMEC CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org).
4. What we do when we receive a report
- Remove the content as quickly as possible. Institution administrators can delete any message in their groups straight away, and we can too.
- Suspend the account involved while we look into it, and permanently ban anyone who has shared CSAM or tried to exploit a child.
- Preserve the information needed for an investigation, securely and with access limited to the people handling the case.
- Report confirmed or suspected CSAM and child exploitation to the relevant authorities, such as the FIA Cyber Crime Wing in Pakistan and the NCMEC CyberTipline, as the law requires.
- Tell the institution so it can follow its own safeguarding procedures and inform the child's parents where appropriate.
- Cooperate with law enforcement requests made under the law.
We aim to review child-safety reports sent to us within 24 hours.
5. Following the law
We comply with child safety laws that apply to us, including the laws of Pakistan on child sexual abuse material and online exploitation, and we report to the authorities as those laws require.
6. Child safety point of contact
